LT3964-1 Synchronous 2A Buck LED Driver

Analog Devices Inc. LT3964-1 Synchronous 2A Buck LED Driver is a dual synchronous step-down DC-DC converter with an I²C interface. The interface is designed to operate as a constant-current and constant-voltage source and is ideal for driving LEDs. The fixed frequency and peak current mode topology result in stable operation over a wide range of supply and output voltages. The ground-referred voltage FB pin serves as the input for several Light light-emitting diode (LED) protection features and allows the converter to operate as a constant-voltage source. An external resistor sets the maximum output current, and the output current amplifier has a rail-to-rail common mode range. The Analog Devices Inc. LT3964-1 uses an I²C interface to communicate with a microcontroller to read LED faults, write PWM and analog dimming registers, and set fault masking. The I²C PWM input provides LED dimming ratios up to 8192:1. The I²C programmable CTRL register sets the gain of the external CTRL pin and maximum current sense threshold, providing additional analog dimming capability.

The regulators serve as a stand-alone LED driver-configurable from 20mA to 150mA with external resistors, no microcontroller is necessary. A logic level “courtesy light” signal from the PWM pin can be interfaced to precisely drive the LED channel. The IS32LT3175P obtains a positive polarity PWM signal. In addition, the IS32LT3175N obtains a negative polarity PWM signal. The regulator integrates a 63-step fade-in and fades out the algorithm (Gamma correction). This causes the output LED current to increasingly rise up to the full source value after the EN pin is pulsed.
