AVX has introduced an automotive series for TransGuard
products. A new series name has been assigned that will
differentiate automotive grade from commercial products,
VCAS. This is a paperwork change as there is no change to
the current process, materials, manufacture location, etc.
Going forward, the VC series will be classified as
commercial and VCAS as automotive grade. The VCAS will
maintain the current design. There is no change to form,
fit, function, or manufacturing location resulting from
this change.

TransGuard® Mulitlayer Varistors

KYOCERA AVX TransGuard® Multilayer Varistors provide a wide range of reliable SMT components for bidirectional overvoltage protection with the advantage of EMI/RFI attenuation in the off-state for professional, industrial, and commercial applications. TransGuard MLVs are zinc oxide (ZnO) based ceramic semiconductor devices with non-linear voltage-current characteristics (bi-directional) similar to back-to-back Zener diodes. These KYOCERA AVX MLVs have the added advantage of more significant current and energy handling capabilities, speedy turn-on time, multiple strikes capability, and EMI/RFI attenuation in the off-state.

TransGuard® VA & VC Voltage Suppressors

KYOCERA AVX TransGuard® VA and VC Multilayer Ceramic Transient Voltage Suppressors (TVS) deliver state-of-the-art bidirectional overvoltage protection from voltage transients caused by electrostatic discharge (ESD), lightning, nuclear electromagnetic pulse (NEMP), and inductive switches. These suppressors are developed using a high-energy multilayer construction, thin dielectric materials, and patented processes for precise ceramic grain growth. Both series provide superior energy dissipation with transient clamping characteristics up to 1.2kA peak current. Other features are 0201 to 3220 case sizes with axial or SMD/SMT termination, 3.3VDC to 385VDC working voltage range, and 10mJ to 15J surge energy range. Applications for KYOCERA AVX TransGuard VA and VC suppressors include microcontrollers, relays, I/O ports, portable devices, industrial controllers, automation, smart grids, base stations, and much more.
