TPS2471 Power-Limiting Hot-Swap Controllers

Texas Instruments TPS2471 2.5V to 18V High-Efficiency Power-Limiting Hot-Swap Controllers offer a safe solution to driving an external N-channel MOSFET. The TPS2471 offers protection features, including programmable current limit and fault time to protect the supply and load from the excessive current at startup. The device provides currents above the user-selected limit that are allowed to flow until programmed timeout after startup. The exception is in extreme overload events when the load is immediately disconnected from the source. The current sense threshold at 25mV is highly accurate and allows the use of smaller, more efficient sense resistors. These features make the TPS2471 offer a lower power loss and a smaller footprint. The programmable power limiting ensures the external MOSFET operates inside its safe operating area (SOA) at all times. This feature improves system reliability by allowing the use of smaller MOSFETs.

LM5060 High-Side Protection Controllers

Texas Instruments LM5060 High-Side Protection Controllers with Low Quiescent Current offers intelligent control of a high-side N-channel MOSFET during normal on/off transitions and fault conditions. The constant rise time of the output voltage results from the inrush current control. Both an Input UVLO (with hysteresis) and a programmable input OVP are provided, with an enable input offering a remote on or off control. The initial start-up V_GS fault detection delay time, the transition V_DS fault detection delay time, and the continuous over-current V_DS fault detection delay time is programmed from a single capacitor. The MOSFET is latched off until either the enable input, or the UVLO input is toggled low and then high when a detected fault condition persists longer than the allowed fault delay time.
